A yard that runs on lighting

An equestrian centre's energy signature looks nothing like a working farm's. The dominant draws are lighting and comfort rather than production: floodlit outdoor menages, a fully lit indoor school for winter and evening lessons, and the clubhouse, café, tack rooms and heated wash-down bays that keep a busy livery or competition yard running. A good deal of that demand falls across daylight and the early evening — precisely when a modest array has power to give — so even a small system finds a real on-site load to serve rather than exporting most of what it makes.

Small systems, simpler planning

These sit among the more straightforward agricultural installations to bring off. A 30–150 kWp system on an indoor arena roof or American-barn stabling is large enough to move the needle, yet small enough to sidestep much of the grid-connection wrangling and planning weight that slows a multi-megawatt farm scheme. The trade-off is that a smaller array carries a slightly higher PPA unit rate — commonly 13–16 p/kWh — although that still lands comfortably beneath a typical commercial grid-import price.
