Named industrial estates suited to a retail estate PPA in London include Park Royal, Brent Cross, Greenwich Peninsula. Indicative 2026 tariff 12–16 p/kWh on a 100kWp–2MWp system.
A solar PPA for retail estate in London typically prices at 12–16 p/kWh in year one on a 100kWp–2MWp system — versus 28–32 p/kWh grid import. The provider funds and maintains the system over 15–25 years; you buy only the power generated, with no capital outlay.
Retail parks and shopping destinations like Brent Cross, the Stratford centres and the big-box units along the Old Kent Road share two traits that make them ideal PPA hosts — expansive flat roofs and heavy daytime electricity demand from trading-hours lighting, tills, escalators and, crucially, refrigeration. That refrigeration base load runs right through the sunniest hours, so a rooftop array's output is consumed on site rather than exported. Under a power purchase agreement a funder owns the panels and the store buys the generation at a fixed 12–16 p/kWh.
The capital's policy backdrop is unusually supportive: London Plan Policy SI 2 expects solar on major new commercial development, and the Greater London Authority is working to a 2030 net-zero target. For an existing store the PPA route sidesteps the capital question entirely — the provider carries the cost and the retailer simply signs up to the power. Given that London commercial energy bills average around £95,000 a year, the highest of any UK city in our data, the saving on offer is correspondingly large.
UK Power Networks distributes electricity across London and out to the commuter belt — Croydon, Bromley, Watford and Slough — and connection availability varies site to site, so an early network check is worth building into any project. Larger stores may need a formal grid application before a 1MWp-plus system can be energised.
PPA pricing and length differ between funders; our pricing explainer shows what drives the rate, and you can see how the retail-sector approach applies across other London commercial sites.
