Solar PPA for retail estate in Belfast

A different market, the same rooftop logic

Northern Ireland runs its own electricity market and its own support routes, so a Belfast retailer's PPA decision sits in a distinct policy setting — but the physics don't change. Demand from refrigeration, lighting and tills concentrates in daylight, and an array over a retail warehouse meets that load directly. The city's estates at Boucher Road, Mallusk, the Harbour Estate and Sydenham Business Park carry the flat, generous roofs a 100kWp–2MWp system needs.

Funding a Belfast installation

A power purchase agreement clears the capital hurdle: the system is owned and maintained by a developer who bills only for generation used, at a fixed 12–16 p/kWh. Against commercial bills averaging about £42,000 a year, self-consumed solar trims a meaningful slice — up to £15,000–£250,000 across a larger estate. Local support looks different here:
